I dont understand why post their vet questions when their cats get sick on here?

Q. I dont understand why people post vet questions that should be answered by vet on here when their cats get sick. I take my cats to the vet when they sick. One of my cats recently had bloody diaharra and wasnt eating well, instead of posting on here why does have bloody diaherra and whats wrong with ect ect, i just took her to the vet. I dont understand why people post vet questions on here when they should take them to the vet?
um she had a infection and they treated with antibotics

A. Million dollar question - as if we are expected to know what their vet does, and telepathically see their pet to make observations that are vital. Very irresponsible - what if their cat DIES because of that?
I can understand when times are tight and the situation could be helped at home, but honestly, what does a phone call cost for ease of mind, knowing you have the CORRECT info?
I am really glad you have the good sense to take veterinary issues to the one qualified to help - your vet, who has the knowledge and scoe of experience to know if there are other things to take into account. Wish everyone did.

How do you show pride in ylur work as a vet?
Q. I am doing a speech on becoming a.vet. one question I have to answer ks how do you show pride in your work as a vet. Can someone please help me!

A. I guess if you like something, you will find lot reason to say why and specially when you are going to have a career that involves caring for others.

How much would this cost at a vet on average?
Q. I found a stray dog that has a hole in his neck. I'm not sure if he got shot, or if an animal attacked him or what. He doesn't seem to be feeling too well and it might be infected. I just want to get him looked at and see what could be wrong with him. I'm not asking for the cost of the actual treatment. Just to get him checked on and ask the vet some questions.

A. To get him checked won't cost much, but the surgery will cost a lot, so unless you have lots of money to cover the costs, I would take him to the shelter, where they will treat the dog and put it up for adoption (but do NOT take the dog to a kill-shelter)

How do I talk to/ask my parents about my possibilities of owning or leasing a horse?
Q. I already posted a question about being ready for horse ownership so please don't talk about "make sure you're ready first" because I'm starting to think I am EVEN IF I'M NOT YET, this is for when I AM. I've adored horses since I was three and finally got riding lessons a bit ovr two years ago after a lot of work. Riding english hunter/jumper since and have showed twice. I have an aunt who I could ask about ownership because she's owned since my age and is a riding instructor. I've done so much research that I dont need to rely on her either, on almost everything thinkable: deciding, buying, costs, boarding, chores, care, vet, questions, time management and MUCH more. 66 pages so far of info and diagrams. I've thought out situations and can juggle things and help pay and i'm getting there to being ready. read my OTHER question for more DETAILS. my parents seem on board and they support me, i still need futher research/advice on how to ask/talk to them about my possibilities more. THNX!

A. Bring the 66 pages to your parents. Go over it together.
See if they will go to the lessons with you so you can talk to the teachers with them and they can see you in action.
Put the diagrams and everything on poster boards and do a presentation.
My cousin volunteers after school at the boarding place where she wants to put up her horse. (when she gets one) Maybe you could do that so your parents learn that you are serious and that this isn't just a phase.
What have you said, and what have they said? You have to negotiate depending on what their objections are.
It seems like you know what you are talking about and have really researched this.
Good Luck.

How long should i wait before geting my dog spayed after her first season has finished?

Q. She is now 8 months old her first season finished on the 6th of January,i have asked 3 vets this question and they have all come up with diferent answers,i would realy like to know as i want her spayed soon and need to know when it is safe for her as she comes first and not my needs,so when is it safe?

A. It isn't necessary to wait for the first heat before spaying. That is a myth the same as "I'll wiat and breed her once so she calms down before I spay her". Both are false.
As you've found, most vets have differing opions on what age is best to spay or neuter, find one you trust and just make the appointment. Sounds like you love your dog.....do what your heart tells you is best for her.

How many years do you have to be in college to become an animal cop? (Other vet questions included)?
Q. My sister is thinking about being an animal cop, but she wants to know how many years of college she has to take. Also, I want to become a vet, but is there a vet that just does check-ups instead of surgery? Kind of like a nurse? And, is there a type of vet that can check on any animal: small animals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, zoo animals, and the animals on shows like Animal Cop? I really want this to be my career. Thank you in advance for your time. :)

A. ANimal cop might just need training and a high school diploma but depends on the department. The best thing for your sister to do is get an associate degree a two year degree and she can become a cop but people with higher degrees would compete against her for the job.A vet like a nurse is a vet tech and the vet that does small animals, like small animals, reptiles, amphibians is called an exotic vet and a vet who sespecializesn birds in an avian vet ans zoo animals is a zoo vet with didifferentraining.

What are the advantages of the Czar structure being implemented by this administration?
Q. For Obama, it means no vetting or questioning of these appointees by Congress and the complete oversight and control of their activities by the White House. How does this affect the citizens of this country? How does such a structure benefit us?

A. there are advantages for obama but not for americans. obama wants to bypass congress so he can implement his socialist agenda. it will benefit him but not us.

How long should I wait before I start working my horse after a bout of collic?
Q. My 9 yr old OTTB had collic yesterday morning. I called the vet out, and he tubed him, and did all the normail things required for collic. He is now fine (I have lessoned his food on instruction from the vet). My question is: how long should I keep his food lessoned, I assume I would need to gradually build him back up (he is already thin); and, when should I resume doing any form of exercise with him?

A. You've already received some good advice...I just want to add that one of my horses tends to colic. I switched him to Purina Senior feed a couple years ago and he's done much better on it since it is more easily digestible. In fact, he hasn't colicked at all since we switched (knock on wood!) You might discuss this with your vet. He is also a hard one to keep weight on, but does very well on the Senior formula.

What otc pain and/or anti-inflammatory meds can I give my dog for his knee ligament injury?
Q. The vet said it will be fine in a couple of weeks, and not to do anything. Also, is rest necessary, or should I walk him for exercise? I forgot to ask the vet this question, and it's hard to get in quickly to see him.
Linus is 13 lbs.
The vet is a low cost fast turnaround type of guy, and they never answer the phone, so I can't ask him.
To the second answerer, did you ever give a dog ibuprofen?

A. Omega 3 (fish oil) might help, it won't hurt. I have taken 'shark cartilage' for tennis elbow and many runners take it all the time. It cleared up my tennis elbow in a very short time. The alternative -the doctors orders- was to take 800 ml of Ibuprofen twice a day for two to four weeks and likely have stomach ulcers from them. I wouldn't give a small dog an ibuprofen.
Best to do something you know will not hurt him or follow the vets instructions. Think of your 13 lb dog as a 13 lb baby. Would you give something that potent to someone that small? People medicine should never be given to dogs unless the vet says so. Their systems are much different. That is why sugar free gum will kill a dog, but not a child or adult.
