The Top 10 dog behaviour myths...?

Q. I found this article and would like to know if you agree or disagree with the 'myths'

http://ca.lifestyle.yahoo.com/pets/dogs/articles/e/behaviour-training/dogsincanada/61/fairy-tales/1

Do you think it depends on the breed of dog, the temperament, how the pup was raised, what the dog is being trained for (police/guard dog vs pet)

Would like your thoughts and opinions

A. Very interesting article, most of it horse crap unfortunately. Those of us who have lived and trained dogs for 30 years plus, KNOW that some of the ideas presented in this article are BS.
When you train dogs for working purposes you quickly realize the pack structure, the dominance that some dogs exhibit and the consequences that occur when you do not follow the guidelines set forth by the reality of dog behavior!
I am certain that most people here will quickly agree with it, because they also have no idea!
Great question by the way!!

Red bloody looking bubble on top of dogs lip?
Q. Okay, well out dog just went nuts outside, barking and whinging. We're pretty sure it was a cat. But, when we went to get her to see what was happening we found a red blood blister bubble type thing on her upper lip. She keeps licking at it, but we don't know what it is.

Would it be a spider/insect/snake bite, a boil, cancer spot? or what.

it 'apparently' according to one family member wasn't there this morning.
so unless they're completely sure it wasn't there before, its not a boil nor cancer.

But could it be a bite?
What should we look for?
Google, google images, online pet advice sites, or just any pet sites at all are being f***ing useless.

I really want to know what is wrong with her, I don't feel like waking up tomorrow and finding my baby girl dead....

Does anyone have any clue what it is?? What it could be?? Any symptoms for specific things to look for?? ..and what to do?

If its still there in the morning, or if anything happens to her tonight, she's going to the nearest open vet. it is 1.12am so...everythings probably closed....

I'm worried :'(

A. unsupervised dog outside, could be anything
call a vet

Is Purina Dog Food necessarily bad for dogs?
Q. I always hear a bad rap about Purina dog food.
About how its not good for dogs, and that it has stuff in it that dogs should not be eating.

But what I don't understand,is if thats true...then why do people who have show dogs, feed their pets this stuff if it's so bad for them?

I use to have my dog on top notch dog food.
Food for skin and coat, but it never worked for him.
So I switched him back to Purina...and he is doing just as good on it.

Plus..the other stuff is so expenive.
$13 bucks a bag a month..and the bags maybe were half full?
Rediculous.

Anyways.....does anyone else have their dogs on Purina?
If you have your dog on the top notch dog food, then thats great. But for someone who can't afford the very expensive bags right now..this is what I have to get my dog.
I mean..there are cheaper brands. Plus my dog has been on it since he was a puppy.

I guess I am just seeking other peoples opinions.

A. No, it's not necessarily bad. And my mom's show dogs have eaten nothing but Purina foods for over 40 years while winning Championships, hunting, competing in Agility and producing healthy litters.

You'll find that on Y!A there is a tremendous bias toward feeding raw first, grain-free second, and everyone feeding anything else is usually told they're idiots who are killing their dogs.

However, you'll see that MANY of the people on Y!A who actually do show, breed and compete their dogs in canine sports use Purina foods.

Feed what you can afford, what your dog does well on, and a brand that you personally feel has good quality control. Don't let a bunch of strangers tell you what's best for YOUR dog and YOUR budget.

The higher-end Purina foods aren't exactly inexpensive, either. ProPlan, One and Selects cost as much as some of the 'premium' foods. If you're looking for something in that price range but are not entirely comfortable with Purina, you could also consider Canidae ALS, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Merrick Whole Earth Farms, or Healthwise. These other choices are similar in price but don't contain corn, wheat, soy, by-products and unnamed ingredients.

Another way to cut costs on whatever you choose to feed is to buy the largest bag you can use in 2-3 months. Store it in an airtight container. Dry foods are always less expensive per pound in the larger bags.

ETA: It's pretty ridiculous to suggest, as someone did in these answers, that the majority of show people using Purina are advertising for them or otherwise being compensated. There are a handful of breeders in the country who are in such arrangements. The rest use it only because it works well for them, and the few who are paid or sponsored by Purina wouldn't use it if it wasn't working for their dogs either.

And yes, Purina does put its ingredients on the website.

Why do Mexicans hate and treat dogs like crap?
Q. Here in America the white people allow their pets, especially dogs to sleep on top of their bed. They feed them scraps of food under their family table during dinner and take them to the vet weekly and groom them too. Then comes Mexico where all the dogs are in the streets, hungry, used for fights, and killed. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated- Gandhi

A. Because Mexico is a 3rd world country and 2 in 3 people don't have enough money to support a dog, unlike here in the states, only for more important things like food, rent, and clothing. And most of the dogs you see on the streets didn't have owners, they were just born on the streets from stray dogs mating. As for the dog fights, well thats fucked up. Have you even heard whats going on in Mexico right now? Gangs and all those dumbshits are taking over states, its like a fucking war, police dont do anything they just get killed!!
