Q. My dog (Rottweiler) was recently sick with an intestinal parasite (she's fine now). Needless to say, she went to the bathroom (diarrhea) and vomited numerous times all over my apartment. Even though I cleaned it up as it happened, I think the smell has somehow embedded itself into the carpet.
No matter what I do, I cannot get the smell out of certain rooms. I've tried using bleach, incense, vacumming, baby powder, opening up all the windows, air fresheners, fans, etc.
Nothing works. No matter what I do, I cannot get the smell out and it's really starting to get to me. I might be able to get the smell out for an hour or two at best, but it always comes back.
At first, I thought my dog was the source of the smell, so I have been giving her a bath everyday, so that rules that source out.
What can I do to get rid of the smell? Do I really have to get my carpets cleaned or is there a cheaper way?
Thanks!

A. My answer will beat these all.
Here's why, My dog, which I had to put to sleep over the summer because of kidney failure...Now she had accidents in the house on the carpet and on the bare floors. Not to mention her body reeked with the smell of death aproaching...now the stuff that you get to get rid of the smell, ( and I learned this ALONG time before this dog) is go to the store (Walmart/kmart,ect). go to the pet section, and look for a white bottle with a picture of a DOG & CAT on it, holding their noses. the name of the stuff is called "OUT" you can get a big bottle and pour it into a capet shampooer just mix it with reg tap water...it has a nice tropical smell and it takes the smell OUT of your carpets instantly!
You can mop your floors with it, takes up Urine and Feeces smell. instantly!!!
This is the ONLY stuff that I found that really works.
On the carpet, if you don't have a carpet cleaner then just pour it on the carpet and use an old towel to lay over it, push down on the towel then let it sit....
Safe for cloth furniture too.

How can I make my sick dog a little more comfortable?
Q. My dog has kennel cough. I took her collar off but I was wondering how I can make her feel more comfortable and heal a little faster? Any recipes or remedies? Anything you do for your dog when they're sick?
yes she's been to the vet and has antibiotics. I was just wanting to baby her a little while she goes through this.
She goes to doggy daycare every day with at least 20 other dogs so I informed them she got it and she won't be going back for three more weeks, poor girl.

A. How do you know its kennel cough??? If a vet has checked her, then she should be on antibiotics.....keep her warm, dry, and quiet...give her plenty of fresh water, and not so much food....Vet first tho, if you haven't already.
How long until a very sick dog with worms gets better?
Q. My dog is very, very sick. After he got out of a dog kennel he was boarded at, he progressively lost about 15 lbs in six weeks, no appetite, had black stools, became very weak. He was hospitalized. They did blood tests, x-rays, an ultrasound, and didn't find anything except that he is very anemic.
Yesterday I saw a worm in his stool. It was very tiny and still moving. So, they put him on dewormer.
Can a dog get this sick from having worms? If so, how long until he starts to feel better and recover?
They aren't sure what kind of worms. The vet said she didn't find any eggs in the stool I brought in but I SAW THE ACTUAL WORM. I checked again after I had picked it up to be sure and saw it again, still moving.
They gave him a 3 day course of Panacur and a 1 day course of Droncit, the latter I will repeat in 10 days.

A. yes, he can definately be this sick from having worms.
as for how long it takes, it depends on what kind of worm he had. and how long he has had it. he sounds pretty sick so he probably has had it quite awhile.

Can I change brands of dog food without my dog getting sick?
Q. I bought my dog a different brand of dog food the other day. Now everytime he eats it (he loves it) about 10 min. later he throws up. Should i keep giving him this food until he adjusts to it or should i change back? I dont want to be cleaning up after a sick dog on a daily basis.
A. What you should had done is mixed that dog food with the old to get him used to it or give him a little bit at different times of the day. They are so used to eating the same thing daily, and their stomach can't get used to that change as fast as we can. You have to start him out slow with any other brand that he's not used to.
