Q. Okay so were getting a pitbull/boxer puppy soon
of course its going to be the family pet, but then we were also thinking that it could be a watch dog too
How would one go about training for a watch dog?
Its also going to be our first dog, so any tips?
*this dog will not be a fighting dog*
*and we want to train it to be a watch dog, NOT AN AGGRESSIVE DOG*

A. You shouldn't have to train her. If she lives inside the house with you as a member of your family, she views you as her pack and will be naturally protective. Not to mention, just her looks are going to be enough to scare people away. However, if she lives outside, she's not going to feel she belongs to your pack and will care less about guarding you. She will guard HER backyard, which she will view as HER territory. She won't care what happens inside the house as long as no one comes into her yard.

Our pits love everyone and everything, but if there is a noise outside that my female isn't familiar with, she will give a low warning growl to let us know something isn't right or someone is in the yard that she is unfamiliar with. Of course, if you open the door, she's all wiggle butt and happy. She will lick them to death. Our male is not a good watch dog. He doesn't bark ever. He's very chill and relaxed.
ETA: Oahu, my dogs NEVER bark at the mailman and they are pit bulls. They're extremely friendly with him. Of course, they're very well socialized so perhaps that's why they don't freak out when he walks in the yard like our neighbors little yippers do.

How do I stop my dog from attacking my cat?
Q. I have a rescue dog who is part Border Collie and part Hound, so he has extremely strong herding/hunting instincts. He has been out to get my cat since we adopted him almost 2 years ago, but she stays away from him and lives upstairs (where he isn't allowed). I'm going to college soon and would like my cat to be able to safely go downstairs to be with the rest of my family, but she can't with the dog behavior. Any tips for dog/cat fighting problems?
A. Discipline your dog.If he is a hunting dog or a rescue dog, that probably or possibly could mean he HAS to attack cats.Just put a gate in the middle of 2 rooms.Put your dog on one side;the cat on the other.Yes,the dog will probably knock the gate down but make sure it's stiff. If you dont have a gate, buy one off ebay.Buy one thats not too big,nor too small.Or,try putting your dog in the backyard but make sure theres fences all around the perimeter so that he can't get out.The dog will probably realize what it's like to be outside and alone like the cat. When your dog is outside, keep your cat upstairs for a minute and put the dog's food and water bowls outside then, bring your cat down and let her smell the fresh air!!

What would be a good age to start a dog walking buisness?
Q. Hi, im 12 and my family and i are trying to raise money to go to Mesa Verde and my idea was to do Dog Walking in about a month when it starts to get warmer (im in Colorado) and and i was hoping that someone could help me with a good payment for a size of dog,a good age to start at.Also, someone could maybe give me some tips on dog walking if anyone had any experience. If you can reply to this, that would be helpful, Thanks!
A. You have to be responsible, which I think you are. You have to be able to handle larger dogs. Some dogs pull and pull. You have to be able to handle them. If your not too strong you can do smaller and medium sized dogs.
What question will I be asked in a dog walking interview?
Q. I recently applied for a job as a dog walker at a kennel. I'm supposed to be eventually called in for an interview, what questions will I be asked? Also, any tips on dog walking that I should know before hand? Thank you!

A. Dress neatly. Clean jeans if you are wearing them-no rips and dark ones. Nice blouse or top.
They will most likely ask why you want the job. How you feel about dogs. What experience you have with dogs., How to handle problem dogs. Good luck
