How do I take care of a spayed puppy at home??

Q. I am getting my puppy spayed and i was wonedering what i need to do to take care of her while she is recovering. so if anyone has a spayed pet can you pleaase tell me everything you know about bringing home your spayed puppy. thanks for your time.

A. Keep your little baby in a playpen or crate for several days...out to potty as needed. Try Jr. baby foods, chicken and beef broth for nourishment or puppy chow if he's up to it. Offer plenty of water. Watch his surgery site for redness, swelling, or drainage. For pain relief, 1/2 to 1 plain aspirin or ask your vet about the pain reliever Tramadol or Ultram. Never give canines Tylenol. NSAIDs only if your vet sez it's OK. Keep the vet's phone number handy and call if any concerns. Most doggies/cats do very well.

How do I train my Jack Russell puppy not to be aggressive?
Q. I have a 6 month old Jack Russell female (spayed) puppy. I also have a 5 year old male Jack Russell. She is very possessive of her toys and bones and thinks that all of them belong to her. She becomes very aggressive toward the older dog when he even comes close to her if she is protecting her "things." She thinks everything belongs to her. How can I train her not to be aggressive without breaking her spirit?

A. Reward her everytime she shows you a behavior that you approve of and give her a sharp noooo when she is doing something wrong. You have to be stubborn and not give up even though it may take a while. If you give in for one second she won and you have to wait until she does something again. Her being aggressive with her toys is because she is Dominate and you are not. YOu have to first say that those are not her toys. Those are your toys and you decide when she will play with them. You have to take control of her life if not she will take control of yours. but all in all dogs want to be led, you just have to be her leader and she will follow you. So dont be afraid, you may have to fight with her a bit to make her submit. But don't give up and remember to praise, praise, praise when she does the right thing.

Why does my spayed female puppy hump her pillow like a male dog?
Q. She's less than six months old, spayed from the shelter and pulled out her pillow in front of guests to hump it and continued to hump it until we took it away. Why? Why would a female puppy do that in the first place let alone a spayed female puppy? My other spayed female dog did not do that in all her 15 years. Could she be a hermaphrodite?

A. That is normal, especially in spayed females. since they don't have ovaries to produce estrogen which makes them act like a female dog their testosterone level is not blocked anymore so they have urges to hump. also any dog tries to satisfy their sexual urges, even spayed/neutered dogs. they're pretty much trying to have an orgasm because they still have sex programmed into their brains.

Is it better to get my dog spayed right after her first heat cycle or wait?
Q. I heard that it's better to get a dog spayed a month after her cycle cause her hormone levels will be stable then or something but I'm not really sure if it's true. Oh and she's already on heat just incase I get answers about spaying puppies before their first heat
2 says straight away and one says wait 3 months...who do i listen to? T.T

A. Wait tuill about 3 months after this season has finished. It gives the hormones a chance to settle down and a chance for her to get back in shape physically. She will put some weight on and t will be harder to shift it once shes spayed so get her in tip top condition before you spay her.

DONT get her done while she is in season - she will bleed more during surgery and 99.9% of vets wont do it during a season anyway.

If a female is not in heat then there is NO chance of accidental pregnancy so just keep her in for 4 weeks then wait 3 months (ish) then get her done
