Q. I have a couple of lightweight statues that I just got for my garden, but I have no idea how to secure them. If there's wind or dogs or kids around, I don't want them to just topple over easily. There's really no way to partially bury them, and there's no hole in the bottom to pour sand or something in. Any ideas besides duct tape?
Thanks for your help!

A. You can carefully drill a small hole in the bottom and fill with either sand or cement. If you fill with sand, you will need to "plug" the hole with something that will not rot. I have glued plastic water bottle lids in holes that I have drilled to fill with sand.
Good Luck!

How to keep a dog kennel clean with snow and ice?
Q. I have a Husky/lab mix. We have kept him outside all year, however this will be his 1st winter. We have coved all the bases...plywood wind breaks, nice dog house off the ground, small amount of heat (anything more he sleep outside his dog house) hay ect. Just want to know how to keep it clean? If i missed anything to keep him warm and happy.
I know it is BEST to keep him INSIDE. He is a working dog. So he is not "jailed" all day.

A. You mention windbreaks, but is the kennel covered? A roof or cover that extends beyond the flooring of the kennel is best, as it keeps snow and rain , leaves and such from falling dripping back down onto the floor and making a mess.
With everything else you've done, it sounds like the kennel will be warm and clean.

Can a house dog survive when it is 18 degrees outside?
Q. My dog ran away. He is a 75lb pure bread Chocolate lab. Its 18 degrees outside and 7 degrees with the wind chill. My dog ran away and it is too dark to go out and look for him. I want an honest no bs assessment. A simple no bs yes or no and please be honest, I don't want a heart filled sorrow response. I just want to know if a dog used to a 70 degree house can survive overnight outside.
A. Yes. He will find a warm place. Go look in the dawn hours.

A. If he finds shelter yes he can. If not then he could freeze to death. I hope someone finds him for you.
